The 2021 National Women’s Soccer League schedule was officially announced Wednesday, and the team has returned to the domestic market this season.
As it did in 2020, the league will revive the NWSL Challenge Cup and launch the campaign. Scheduled to start on April 9th.. The team will report to the pre-season camp on February 1st before launching the Challenge Cup in their respective domestic markets.
“The NWSL Medical Task Force is working with public health authorities to update the league’s medical and testing protocols to ensure the safest environment for athletes, teams and staff to return to competition. We have been working on it, “the league said in a statement.
The 10 teams in the league will face each other in a regular season of 24 games from May 15th to October 30th. The league will not be defeated for the 2021 Olympics and the top six players of the regular season will participate in the NWSL playoffs.
The playoffs are scheduled to begin on November 6, with the top two seeds receiving the first round buy. The NWSL Championship will take place on November 20th, ending the ninth season of the league prior to the 2021 expansion draft scheduled for December 16th.
The Houston Dash became the defending challenge cup champion after defeating the Chicago Red Stars 2-0 and winning the club’s first ever trophy last June.
