23% corn planting in Illinois

Illinois corn farmers made a small step forward in planting last week.

As of Sunday, 23 percent of the state’s intended acres of corn have been planted, according to the latest crop report from the USDA. This is compared to 12 percent a week ago, 33 percent a year ago, and an average of 28 percent over five years.

The appearance rate of corn is 2%, which is 1 percentage point behind normal.

Soybean planting reached 18%, but a year ago it was 16%, usually 6%.

The number of winter wheat is 19%, and 72% of the crops are rated as “good” to “excellent”.
