A new Mass Effect trailer full of secrets makes fun of the director

The untitled new entry in the Mass Effect series has only a short CGI trailer so far, but fans have already created some theories about it.

As exciting as the new Mass Effect trailer Revealed at the Game Awards last night, it doesn’t confirm much terrible that it’s a short CGI teaser.

But project director Michael Gamble, who has been regularly involved in the series since Mass Effect 2, is teasing that much more is happening than the trailer can see.

“There’s a lot to unpack,” he simply advises fans to look carefully and listen.

It’s already suspected that it still has a connection to Mass Effect Andromeda (despite how bad the game’s reputation was), and because it’s the only character in the series to feature regular Liara T’Soni. The Riara seeds, which may have been set long after the original event, can live for over 1000 years, so it’s a trilogy.

Fans continue to trailer for other details, finding the silhouette of Reaper, a race of machines that acted as a major adversary throughout the original trilogy.

Gambling confirmed it on Twitter that way. This means that the planet seen in the trailer is in the Milky Way galaxy and could be the Earth itself.

In his account, Gambling also acknowledges the credit of members of the development team, who were story designers and film directors in the original trilogy, such as Dusty Everman and Parish Ray, respectively.

Both were originally away from BioWare, but are now back at work on new games, and according to Gamble, former BioWare staff are back.

“Dusty decided to rejoin BioWare and work on his next Mass Effect game. There’s more like Dusty. I’ve heard what Mass Effect means to you.”

The prospect of a former BioWare veteran returning may reassure some fans, given what’s happening in the studio these days.

Recently, both Mass Effect co-creator Casey Hudson and Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah have left BioWare, but there is no official explanation for why.
