Ag Group officially opposes chlorpyrifos ban

More than 80 ag groups formally oppose the EPA’s ban on the insecticide chlorpyrifos.

The group, which includes the American Farm Bureau Federation, the American Soybean Association, and specialty crop organizations, is interested in several areas of EPA’s decisions, including the processes used and the lack of scientific evidence.

According to the group, the EPA failed to carry out the necessary reviews, which could incur additional costs in the food and agriculture sector of well over $ 100 million.

The EPA’s rule of revoking tolerances also affects growers who have little or no pest management options, including cherries.

They are asking the agency to postpone the implementation until the objection is formally considered and addressed.

According to the EPA, chlorpyrifos has been shown to inhibit the enzymes that cause neurotoxicity and is also associated with potential neurological effects in children.
