American Overseas Weekend Rewind: Brooks, McKennie, etc. – Soccer Sports

John Brooks was the mainstay of Wolfsburg’s backline this Bundesliga season, but American defenders showed his abilities in front of the goal on Sunday.

The US Men’s National Center defeated Freiburg 3-0 this weekend, defeating the deadlock in the 22nd minute and scoring a winning goal. Brooks took full advantage of Freiburg’s failed clearance and volleyed the loose ball behind the net. It was Brooks’ second league goal of the season and was in good shape for a comfortable shutout victory.

He also won 5 out of 6 duels, achieved 8 clearances, succeeded in 3 aerial battles, and recovered 5 times from the center back position. Wolfsburg’s recent victory put them in third place at the league table, three points behind second-placed RB Leipzig.

Weston McKennie gave Juventus a strong performance on Saturday, helping the Italians beat Sampdoria 2-0. McKennie led Juventus with five tackles, with 88% of the passes in the match. The American men’s star has successfully bounced off minor injuries and has become a major contributor to the old lady’s league title.

Elsewhere, Christian Pulisic recorded his first Premier League assist of the season at Chelsea’s Homewin. Andria Novaković also recorded an assist despite Frosinone’s defeat in the league. Julian Green continued the strong run of Groiter Firth during a pair of US women’s star stars who scored in WSL play. Mark McKenzie was a great figure for Genk in a scoreless draw with Mechelen.
