A few months after EA began introducing previous Origin-only games on Steam, publishers released Apex Legends, the largest PC multiplayer title on Valve’s platform. And the early signs are that it’s a Steam blockbuster, instantly launching charts comparable to the platform’s top games.
As SteamDB shows, Apex Legends reached a peak simultaneous player count of nearly 90,000 on day one. This is already ahead of the venerable Steam titles Rainbow Six Siege, Destiny 2, Grand Theft Auto V and more. The day after launch – it peaked at 100,028 new players and solidified its early ranks among Steam’s top titles.
Unfortunately, there is no way to keep track of the number of new players in the Steam release or the number of players switched from Origin. Unlike Steam, Origin does not provide public simultaneous player information. Progress from either version is carried over to the other version, and all PC players are in the same matchmaking pool, so there are few barriers to changing platforms.
The Steam version came along with the 7th season of the game, which includes new characters, Horizon, new maps and more. Also, with some controversial changes to the Battle Pass, developer Respawn needed to speed up progress in response to community complaints.
