While the PS5 boasts backward compatibility with PS4 games, Sony has released a short list of PS4 games that are incompatible with the new console. Ubisoft added its own list of incompatible games, but later removed it, so gamers wondered if Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, the largest game on the list, is actually compatible with the PS5. ..
After all, the answer is … some sort of thing. Kotaku launched the game on the PS5 and confirmed that it was working fine, but was plagued by visually very distracting shadow flicker. Depending on your patience for that sort of thing, the problem may make it unplayable for some or minor enough to be ignored.
Kotaku also reported that the game displayed a small warning message when launched on the PS5. “Unexpected game behavior can occur while playing this PS4 game on the PS5 console.”
As we encountered in GameSpot’s PS5 review, other games that aim to be fully compatible with PS5, such as Batman: Return to Arcum, will see the same warning. Return to Arkham also had a small graphic glitch when playing on the PS5, but nothing on the scale of what’s happening with the syndicate.
When a patch is released, the performance of some glitch games may improve on the PS5, but games like Syndicate may not support the patch due to age and poor sales.
