Austin FC First Overall Selects Daniel Pereira on a Busy Day in 2021 MLS Draft – Soccer Sports

Austin FC’s first MLS draft was a busy day that started with a bit of surprise.

Austin FC led the 2021 MLS draft on Thursday, welcoming Virginia Tech midfielder Daniel Pereira in first place overall, with two other players in the first round. On the day of the expansion, Washington centerbacks Freddie Kleemann and Duke made a total of five choices, including 11th and 21st overall picks, leaving Aedan Stanley.

FC Cincinnati took second place in Wakeforest forward Calvin Harris after Pereira took the lead. Colorado Rapids drafted Clemson midfielder Philip Mayaka in third place overall. Rapids got a third selection from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for a $ 200,000 quota. This can reach $ 250,000. The dynamo turned around and used the quota to exchange for midfielder Derrick Jones.

The top five picks were closed by Clemson forward Kimalnis Smith and Wakeforest centerback Michael Desires. Both were selected by DC United. DeShields came in fifth after DC United traded up on the spot with a deal with Atlanta United.
