Bathurst 12 Hour to rejoin the Intercontinental GT Challenge in 2022 – Motorsports

Enduro in Australia was given the date of March 20, 2022. This is six weeks behind the traditional calendar slot on the first weekend of February.

IGTC boss Stephen Laterl said of the date announcement at the annual press conference of his eponymous organization at the Barcelona GT World Challenge Europe Round on Sunday: Travel conditions are improving in Australia.

“I am confident that I will be able to travel to Australia by the end of March.”

He announced in 2016 that the event, which was one of the founding blocks of the IGTC, was revived along with the Spa 24 Hours, describing the race as “a very important event on our calendar”. “I am very happy.”

Later did not elaborate on the logistical issues regarding the currently valid trip to Australia and whether the end of quarantine at the time of entry would be an absolute prerequisite for future races.

Following the 10-hour cancellation of Suzuka in 2020 and 2009, a four-round schedule for the 2022 IGTC without rounds in Asia was announced.

“There is still a lot of uncertainty about Asia, so I won’t go to Japan next year,” he explained.

Later, Later, he outlined his desire to return to Suzuka, which joined the IGTC schedule in 2018.

“This is a great event and I want to come back again,” he told autosport last month.

Later, after canceling this year, he was considering replacing Suzuka, but explained that his organization decided that he “wants to race in Suzuka, or not at all.”

The traditional calendar slot spa, Indianapolis and Carami Round make up the rest of the 2022 IGTC calendar.
