Bobby McMan led by three points and Jeremy McKenna added goals and assists.
Allen scored two goals in the opening frame to lead 2-0. Corey McKin put the Americans on the board at the first 9:36 with the help of Jake McGrew. Turner Ottenbright increased the lead to 2-0 at 13:18 when McKin created a turnover in the showdown. He stepped down the left, sent a pass to Ottenbright, and defeated Evan Wenninger over his shoulder.
In the second half of the second, McKenna filled one time during a 4 to 3 power play and cut the lead to 2-1.
Third, McMan scored consecutive goals to give Thunder the first lead in the contest. In his first match, Jacob Graves found him in the slot at 2:58 and defeated Zachary Savchenko to draw the match. His second came at 8:50 and gave Thunder a 3-2 advantage. He moved his right wing up with great force, driving the net and avoiding Sochenko at the third fold of the season. At 12:38, Allen pulled even at 3 o’clock when Joseph Gallefa removed the miss shot from the end wall and banked behind Wenninger in Season 5. For the first time in the season series, the two teams needed overtime.
Wichita controlled much of the extra session, overtaking the Americans by a 7-3 margin and tilting the ice in Allen Zone. However, Tyler Shihee finished the game at 5:28 after creating a turnover in the neutral zone, catching a pass from the rush and defeating Wenninger to give the Americans extra points.
McMan finished with two goals and an assist. Matteo Gennaro used assist to extend the point streak to five games. Bow Starlet won his first assist of the season, and Noel Hofenmeier also added a helper.
Wichita will head to Kansas City on Tuesday night at 7:05 pm. Thunder will start at 7:05 pm on Friday, January 8th and will return home in three games against Mavericks.
