BMW can be the third “pride” on the Rolex 24 against the Corvette – Motorsports

The factory BMW team, run by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, made the first of four outings scheduled for the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season last weekend with the M8 GTE pair. We aimed to win the Daytona for the third consecutive year.

However, German manufacturers couldn’t prevent Corvette Racing from dominating the top two positions, with Augusto Farfus, Jesse Clone, Jon Edwards and Whitman sharing the # 24 BMW with two C8s. Finished in 3rd place after R.

Farfs took the lead following the twelfth and final warning of the race, leaving a chance to win until he was overtaken by Jordan Taylor’s Corvette with just over an hour left.

“Overall, getting the podium was a successful result. Of course, I wanted to win and I wanted to go home with my watch, but in the end, Corvette’s pace was better than this weekend. I have to admit that they were slightly stronger and led almost the entire race.

“I’m proud to be on the podium in P3. It was a great experience because it was my first time on the podium in the United States.”

However, an engine problem occurred in the last third of the race, pushing the crew to fifth place on the Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE.

“I think it was hard to fall back in eight hours when there was a problem affecting engine performance,” said Glock, who likes DTM driver Whitman, starting his first IMSA. It worked really well in the top three.

“Connor was at some point leading and did a really great job of taking us in front of the Corvette, but this is how the 24-hour race is.

“The team did a very good job, also trying everything in the # 24 car to challenge the Corvette. They were shortly before us, but in the end we have to leave it alone. Must be.

“Overall it was a great experience. I enjoyed my first appearance here in Daytona. The team did a great job. Like the engineers, the mechanics worked hard to get both cars in good shape. It was great. It’s fun. ”
