BUSINESS LIVE: Slow retail sales. FCA withdrew M & C Saatchi’s investigation.Shell Blast “Body Blow” Court Decision


UK retail sales fell in December after consumers shopped for Christmas earlier than usual in November and many were at home due to the epidemic of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

Sales volume decreased 3.7% from November. This is a far greater blow than the 0.6% decline predicted by economists, the largest decline since the coronavirus was blocked in January last year.

The Financial Conduct Authority has completed an investigation into advertising group M & C Saatchi, but no enforcement action has been taken.

Earlier this month, M & C Saatchi said the all-stock acquisition that could have been triggered by the biggest investor, software entrepreneur Vin Murria, wouldn’t benefit much, but it also improved its profit outlook.

Shell’s boss accused him of feeling “damaged” in a groundbreaking climate change ruling from a Dutch court.

Ben Van Baden said it was “very annoying” for the oil giant to be chosen as the way the world uses energy.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, sales volume decreased by 0.9% compared to December 2020.
