NVIDIA Released a pair of videos to introduce Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Some of the next generation technologies that the game supports. One video shows raytracing on / off and the second video is shown side by side with NVIDIA DLSS.
Ray tracing – realistic shadows, realistic depth
The first video shows raytraced shadows from the sun / local light source and ambient occlusion with an on / off swipe. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War It features DirectX 12 Ultimate ray-traced ambient occlusion, local shadows, and sun shadows. These are accelerated by RTX for more immersive gameplay.
Notice how shadows create continuous silhouettes with contact hardening and high resolution details, without aliasing or self-shadowing. Ambient occlusion adds depth to the environment and makes it look more realistic. This shading technique determines the amount of light that hits objects in the scene.

DLSS – Beautiful and crisp images, higher frame rates
The second video is a split screen video with DLSS on and off. The interesting part is in the upper corner in the form of a frame counter. It’s difficult to distinguish between the two in terms of image quality, but the “DLSS on” frame counter is usually about twice as large as the DLSS off. NVIDIA Provides Vulkan Ray Tracing Developer Drivers and Nsight Graphics Support
For those who missed it, yesterday the official Khronos Vulkan Ray Tracing extension was completed and NVIDIA released a new NVIDIA Developer Driver that provides support. Our goal is to include support for these extensions in future Game Ready Drivers and Studio Drivers, in line with raytracing support in the Vulkan SDK in mid-December. In addition, Nsight Graphics 2020.6 was released today to support the Vulkan Ray Tracing extension.
Introducing ray tracing to Vulkan is a multi-year effort by many companies, and NVIDIA has taken active leadership at each stage of its evolution. Elected to chair the Balkan Ray Tracing Subgroup of Kronos, providing Kronos with a vendor extension design to support the rapid progress of the Balkan Working Group, and a provisional version of the Balkan Ray Tracing Extension for developer availability.
