Canelo Alvarez remains in second place after victory: Pound for Pound – Boxing Sports

Canelo Alvarez was acclaimed for his performance against Callum Smith last Saturday night. And of course it is.

The Mexican star couldn’t stop the durable Briton, dominating a solid opponent to win a wide range of decisions and two super middleweight titles. It was one of the most impressive nights of Alvarez’s amazing career.

But was it enough for him to replace Terence Crawford, who is at the top of the boxing junkie’s Pound for Pound list?

No.

Again, Alvarez performed great against his talented and tall opponents. But we knew Smith’s limits were going into battle. And they were clearly apparent in the ring of the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Victory against such opponents can be commendable, even if not monumental.

Therefore, Crawford and Alvarez remain number one and number two on the boxing junkie list into 2021.

Also, No. 9 Gennady Golovkin remains in position after seven knockouts of Kamil Zelemeta to defend his middleweight title on Friday in Hollywood, Florida.

The pound is standing here.
