Catalyst Black is a new game from Vainglory developer Super Evil Megacorp. It’s an isometric team-based shooter, and its DNA also contains something like MOBA. It’s fast and desperate, but it has a fairly steep learning curve, so some players may find it a bit lost.
In this game, you create tools using special movements called weapons, equipment, and primals. This allows you to transform into a giant monster in a short amount of time, causing great damage to enemy teams or monsters you are trying to defeat.
There are several different modes to unlock during play. Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, PvE Horde Mode and more. Everything is pretty well organized and there are always new gear and upgrades just around the corner.
Violence lacks the weight of other archers, and if the hostile player is at a higher level than you, it’s pretty easy to get angry. You can’t rush into every burning gun here. If you want to win, you need to play strategically, stick together, and combine your skills.
The scrap is short and sharp and lasts only a few minutes. I am waiting for you whenever I want to jump. There is also a grind here, especially if you want to keep up with regular players. As a sitting duck.
Catalyst Black has a decent rhythm and the urge to play another game. This means that a short session can turn into a battle of several hours. With some great ideas, controller support will definitely be welcomed by many players.
Catalyst Black is an interesting shooter, but in many ways it will be quite split. If it clicks with you, you have a very good chance of spending the next few years engrossed in its violent behaviour. But if not, and if everything is a little too early, you may not rethink.
