Connor McMichael and Martin Hugo Participate in the 2nd World Junior Championships: An Introduction to the 2021 World Junior Championships – NHL Sports

It is certainly “the most wonderful time of the year”.

The NHL is preparing for the start of the 2020-21 season, which begins on January 13. Players have begun to return to their home city Prior to the training camp from December 27th to January 3rd.
This year’s Holiday Cake Icing is the 2021 World Junior Championships, held each year in the last week of December and the first week of January. The tournament will showcase some of the best hockey talents in the world under the age of 20.

Ten qualified teams from North America and Europe will compete in round-robin tournaments and single-elimination tournaments starting this Friday’s Christmas day at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Very similar to last year’s NHL playoffs, all teams are in the “bubble” in Edmonton. All games are played without fans.

In qualifying, 10 teams will be divided into two 5 team groups. They include:

Team / group

Group A: Canada, Finland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Germany

Group B: Russia, Sweden, USA, Czech Republic, Slovakia

Tournament format
After one round robin series in each group, the top four teams in each group will advance to the playoff round and the fifth place team in each group will end the tournament. There are no demoted teams this year.

For all games, points will be awarded as follows:

  • 3 points for the winning team at the end of the regulation time
  • If the game is a draw, 1 point for both teams at the end of the regulation time
  • Additional points earned in a penalty shot shootout if the team wins the game in overtime for 5 minutes, or if the teams are tied after the extra time
  • 0 points for the team that lost the match within the specified time

The top four teams (points) in qualifying will play the crossover quarterfinal game: 1A vs 4B, 1B vs 4A, 2A vs 3B, 2B vs 3A. The winner of each quarterfinal will advance to the semifinals.

Highest ranked team in the semifinals – Criteria:

  • 1) Placement within the group,
  • 2) Points of the qualifying round,
  • 3) Goal difference in qualifying,
  • 4) Goals scored in qualifying,
  • 5) Seed to participate in the tournament – ​​play against the bottom semi-finalists.

The winner of each semi-final game moves to the gold medal game and the loser plays in the bronze medal game.

Capitals outlook
Capitals send two outlooks for this year’s World Junior Championships: Team Canada forward Connor McMichael and Defensenman Martin Hugo With the Czech Republic. Both have participated in the World Junior Championships for the second consecutive year.

Connor McMichael Last year he was one of the top Canadian teams to host a great tournament and win a gold medal. McMichael scored 5 goals and 2 assists in 7 Canadian games.

Martin Hugo (Pronounced “hash”) was also strong at last year’s tournament in his native Czech Republic. He scored one goal and two assists against Germany in the second game of the Czech Republic tournament.

Capitals Outlook and First Draft Topic of the Year Hendrix Lapierre, 18 Years Old Did Not Create Team Canada Roster Released on December 10th by Team Canada Selection Camp.. He will take another shot next year.

Exhibition game
All 10 teams will play one exhibition game before the tournament begins at the end of this week.

Team USA will face Team Finland at 9:30 pm on Tuesday, December 22nd.

Connor McMichael and Team Canada will face Team Russia at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 23rd.

Martin Hugohas and the Czech Republic will face Team Slovakia at 9:30 pm on December 23rd.

Tournament schedule
The tournament begins on Christmas Day and begins with a three-game slate, including Team USA and Team Russia at 9:30 pm EST. Connor McMichael and Team Canada will face Team Germany the next day at 7:00 pm EST.
