Cyberpunk 2077 has shifted over 5 million copies since its release.

Cyberpunk 2077 Developer and publisher CD Projekt today published a rare note revealing the number of copies sold since the game was released. The report confirms that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 13 million copies, covering both digital and physical, by December 20th (10th).

This sell-through (consumer meaning) number also takes into account all refund and return requests processed by December 20th in both physical and digital stores. In other words, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 5 million units since its launch, as pre-orders for the game have already shifted by 8 million units.

If you’re wondering why CD Projekt chose to announce this now, the publisher actually clarifies the reason in a press release. Quite simply, the board of directors of CD Projekt disclosed sales “because it could influence investment-related decisions.”

Many Polish and American investors have decided to take legal action against CD Projekt, thanks to the state of the latest generation consoles of Cyberpunk 2077 and the subsequent decision to discontinue the game from Sony’s PlayStation Store. With that in mind, developers and publishers want to guarantee investors. If there is a dispute, there is nothing to worry about.

Currently, CD Projekt Red publishes small patches across platforms, but the big patch doesn’t arrive until January and another patch is scheduled for February. At a recent internal meeting, staff reportedly expressed unrealistic expectations of management, and the studio’s reputation was hit hard.
