Cyberpunk 2077 mod makes night city pedestrians more stupid

As you wander around Night City in Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll notice that pedestrians in open-world games seem a little unaware of what’s happening around them. They are surprised when you hit them, and often seem unaware of what’s happening just before. Thanks to a handy new mod, you can sharpen your situational awareness and behave like real people trying to avoid hitting the car.

The Alternate Crowd Behavior mod by TemplarGFX is not a complete mod, but a tweaked .ini file that modifies some of the distance thresholds in Cyberpunk 2077 NPC. Specifically, this mod increases the distance that pedestrians notice obstacles on the path. This includes V. Therefore, when you install this tweak, you need to see people turn around so that they don’t invade you right away.

The mod makes a few more changes – NPCs require less “personal space” while walking. This means that NPCs will cluster more naturally and are less likely to disappear into thin air when not looking. (However, if you do something scary, they disappear). This adjustment also increases the number of NPCs allowed in the scene at one time. This is an interesting reversal of the mod that turns Night City into a ghost town by removing all cars and pedestrians that use the same kind of .ini file tweaks. As this alternative behavior hack does.

Here it is running. The video of the changed behavior starts at the 1:30 mark.

If you want to give it a try, go to Nexus Mods and download the file. There are two files in the compressed archive, a file named altcrowdsfull.ini and a file named altcrowdslite.ini. It is important to note that these are adjustments for the “full” and “light” versions, respectively, and installing either will increase the load on your PC’s CPU. As you can imagine, tracking the behavior of more NPCs means more work for your computer’s processor.

Select the tweak version you want to use and drop the corresponding file into the Cyberpunk 2077engineconfigplatformpc folder. Once that’s done, you’re ready to interact in Night City, which is full of people who aren’t too sleepy anymore.
