The studio has confirmed that Dauntless will be playable on all next-generation systems with cross-play. Track a total of 6 platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch and PC, all seamlessly syncing and online hunting.
The news was revealed in a letter to the Dauntless community by Phoenix Labs CEO and co-founder Jesse Houston. However, he did not specify whether this next-generation version would be its own individual client or simply available in the opposite combination.
Many years of Slayers will be more interested in knowing what’s coming with the December Dauntless Reforged update. According to Houston, this will radically change the progress of game players and lay the foundation for future content and features. Here is a brief summary:
- New hunt type: hunting ground
- 17 An island rebuilt for a hunting ground
- 1 Brand new island for hunting grounds
- Island event
- Slayer’s pass progression system
- Class XP system and prestige rework
- Gear leveling rework
Dauntless Reforged removes patrols and tracking and completely changes the way hunting queues are done. Phoenix Labs matches the new Hunting Ground Mode as a longer and more rewarding way to experience Dontress, and as a way to encourage “stay and kill” instead of jumping in and out of the hunt. I’m making fun of reducing the making time, but the details continue.
This is another exciting update for Dauntless. This game is getting more and more powerful. We recently posted the latest 2020 review of the game, scoring 8 out of 10 of our free-to-play Monster Hunter rivals.
Dauntless isn’t very original on that premise, but it offers a very fun and accessible take in monster hunting role-playing games. It doesn’t waste time throwing you straight into action, and it’s easy to pick up, but there’s a lot of depth there for fans of the genre. In addition, Dauntless is completely free to play, gracefully avoiding the annoying monetization pits we’re used to.
We’ll talk more about Dauntless Reforged in the near future.
