One of The Game Awards’ big surprises is a new game by the co-creator of Dead Space, aiming for the next generation of survival horror.

There weren’t many surprises at this year’s Game Awards. This is not unexpected given what the coronavirus has done to most corporate plans this year.

But one of the games that came out of nowhere was The Callisto Protocol, the first project of the new studio Striking Distance Games, owned by PUBG publisher Krafton and run by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield.

Until recently, Schofield worked with co-creator Michael Condrey at Activision on Call Of Duty, but now that he’s gone, he wants to be “the most horrifying game ever.” Ready to work on.

It’s not 100% clear what’s happening on the trailer, but it seems that an umbrella-like shenanigan is happening in the prison of Callisto, Jupiter’s second largest moon.

The prisoners have been tested and appear to have turned into some sort of zombie / alien type monster while being watched by robot guards.

Schofield describes the game as a “next generation survival horror” and a single-player third-person story-driven horror game.

Seven years after the last Dead Space game, the final entry, Dead Space 3, has been accused of weakening the horror element and adding unnecessary cooperation modes.

The Callisto protocol seems to be fully configured to avoid the same mistakes and will be released in 2022 on the Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
