Swarm, a PvP mode for Back 4 Blood, was shown in detail during E3 2021. In 4v4 mode, players fight as cleaner vs. reden to see which teams can last longer against the horde.
The Swarm match is the best of five rounds, with teams swapping between Cleaner and Reden, with Cleaner aiming to survive as long as possible, and Reden trying to beat humans. Both teams can get upgrades by getting kills. You can use upgrade points to upgrade hordes of Ridden to defeat cleaners faster, or upgrade cleaners to survive longer. The upgrade lasts between rounds, so players can adjust the upgrade to unlock for several rounds.
The presentation also showed several different Ridden variants (Reeker, Retch, Exploder, Stinger, Hocker, Stalker, Tallboy, Crusher, and Bruiser). Cleaners can combine and combine different weapon attachments across all weapons.
