Dragon Quest XI is gone Dragon Quest XI is gone

There can only be one Echoes when Dragon Quest XI is gone. At least this seems to be the policy for publisher Square Enix, who has excluded existing versions of RPGs from Steam and other storefronts in favor of this week’s new definitive “S” edition. Sure, having just one large JRPG edition in store is probably not too confusing, but fans who don’t feel that a new edition change is enough to justify buying the game again I’m angry.

I think making sure that it’s the only edition of the game you can buy is one way to make something “the definitive”. But it’s a little cheap, isn’t it?

The digital version of Dragon Quest XI Bypass Echoes-Light Steam List comes with a pointer to the new definitive edition and a notice that the game has been delisted at the publisher’s request. Existing owners can still download and manage the version as usual, but otherwise this is an edition of the game closed to new players.

As points out, there are some issues between the two editions, and someone could choose the old one over the new one. Due to its roots as a switch port, there are some graphic differences that can be considered downgraded. Older owners are also dissatisfied with the idea that new content is locked behind a new, regular-priced game, rather than adding to the vast RPGs they already own.

It’s also pretty cheeky, considering that Square Enix is now able to (mostly) resell the same game at a slightly higher price. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is the only edition of the game available on Steam, Epic, and the Microsoft Store, priced at £ 30 / € 40 / $ 40.
