Set to create an “open world action-adventure game”.
After acquiring British developer Codemasters, EA seems to be expanding its portfolio of developers again. The company is launching a new studio led by Kevin Stephens, a former Monolith Productions VP.
The studio doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s based in the Seattle area and is known to work in open-world action-adventure games (via GamesIndustry.biz). During his time at Monolith, Stevens oversaw projects such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, so he has extensive experience working in this genre.
Stevens reunites with Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President and Group General Manager of EA. Samantha Ryan was a former Monolith president and worked with Stevens. Ryan told GamesIndustry.biz: “Action-adventure space is a very important genre for our industry and for EA.
“The players and fans of these games are very passionate and one of my personal favorite genres. Recently, I also succeeded in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. More fun for fans with similar interests. I want to do it. “
Ryan added that he still knows a lot of “basic questions” about the studio, such as its size, which game to work in, the speed of growth, and whether to hire remote workers. “Both Kevin and I know how important it is to’correct’the foundation of the studio. He takes the time to understand everything. When you’re in a hurry, don’t give compassionate time. Why hurry up ?? “
Also, I’m still not sure if the studio will work with the new IP franchise or the existing EA franchise, but it looks like we’ll need to hear more about the studio in the fall. I’m certainly looking forward to hearing more about the studio-I guess when it’s ready to get out of the shadows.
