On Monday, hundreds of farmers in the Ulhonigbe Forest Reserve in the Orhionmwon Municipal Area of ​​Edo protested allegations that they had leased a forest reserve to Salo to grow palm oil plantations.

According to him, the land with the Ulhonigbe Forest Reserve was donated by our ancestors, but other communities refused to donate the land to the Forest Reserve.

“The Uronigbe Forest Reserve is our only livelihood and we are farming to sustain the lives of our families and children. Our children are mostly graduated children who have no jobs and I am engaged in agriculture in a forest reserve.

“People in Delta have invaded a very large area from one side of the forest reserve. The only area we are farming is not enough for our agricultural population and the governor has invested in oil palm. This is the place you plan to give to your home.

“In the Owoho area, where part of this forest reserve was handed over to Presco Oil Palm investors, palm trees were planted, but today the people in the area are suffering, so the remaining small I don’t want it to be repeated again on land, “he said.

While pointing out that the Oonmun local government has no land to rent to investors, the governor said the local people should not be starved and starved.

However, he appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to move Salo and other palm investors to another municipality with virgin land.
