Evgeny Kuznetsov’s resurrection – NHL Sports

Capitals was looking at a difficult start to start the 2021-22 season.

After the start of the season with divisional rivals the New York Rangers, Capitals then faced two of the best NHL teams. The first was Tampa Bay Lightning, two defending champions on Saturday. Next was a match against the flying Colorado Avalanche, which is popular with many prophets to win this year’s Stanley Cup. Final result: 5 out of 6 Capitals points.

Much of the team’s great start was the play of Capitals’ top lines, especially team captains Alex Ovechkin (4g, 2a) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (2g, 4a). In a way, it was a long way to go for Evgeny Kuznetsov.

There is no doubt that he heard the cries of many Capitals fans during the summer and begged him to be traded. There is no doubt that he has heard all the trade negotiations that fly around the league since the end of last season.

But for his honor, Kuznetsov responded in the most positive way. He stayed in northern Virginia throughout the summer, exercising, playing games, appearing nicely in training camps and ready to roll.

For Peter Laviolette, the difference was very noticeable from the start of the Capitals training camp.

“He had a really nice and great summer training. He went into the camp and really stood out throughout the camp. I remember saying that the camp was going on. It was really good in the exhibition game and the beginning of the season. Was really good for him, “said La Violette. Capitals defeated Avalanche 6-3 on Tuesday night..

After scoring three assists on the opening night with the Rangers, Kuznetsov began the slope on Tuesday night, with Colorado scoring the first goal of the game. Defenseman John Carlson sent him an entry pass along the way to give Capitals a 6:15 lead.

However, Kuznetsov and Capitals’ positive start was quickly weakened by the turnover he caused in Capitals’ power play, leading to a short-handed goal by Avalanche, tying the game 1-1.

After the change, Kuznetsov returned to the bench, but never heard derogatory words from his teammates or coaches. Kuznetsov said it meant a lot to him.

“Confidence always comes from coaches and teammates. I feel like I have a great relationship with my coach and teammates. It always gives you a lot of confidence. I committed in power play. The mistake is credible, so no one should tell me anything. Thank you, I feel sick. “

Raviolete said he briefly spoke with Kuznetsov following sales. “We chatted really quickly on the bench, just a turnover happens. Those things happen when you’re a creative player. And he’s already had a big impact on the game before that. We talked about what he could have done defensively in another way, and at that point he turned around and said, “I’m going to get it back.” I did.

Kuznetsov will certainly get it back.

“It’s a really good game for him. His speed and possession of skates and pucks are right now,” Laviolette said.

Kuznetsov never came out of the proverbial forest, and there are only three games in this season’s book. His past problems are still not enough in rearview mirrors. But the start was desperately needed by him, Capitals and his fans everywhere.

“It’s just three games, right? So basically, of course, we’re happy with how we play and our personal performance. After all, that’s still two points. Even if we don’t playoffs. For example, it doesn’t matter how many points you get, “Kuznetsov said following the match on Tuesday night.

Kuznetsov and Capitals returned on ice when they visited the Devil’s in New Jersey on Thursday. The pack drop is set immediately after 7 pm.
