RPGs based on the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition ruleset currently available in Steam Early Access may look like a very special genre. Baldur’s Gate 3 is still the king of that particular niche, but it’s not the only game in town. Solasta: Crown of the Magister aims to be a super faithful representation of the current D & D rules, with a major update in December.
Solasta’s Winter Update will be released on December 14th in parallel with the DRM-free release of the game on GOG. This update introduces new areas and new quest sets, as well as new monsters, including the fairly vicious Minotaur. Please see the official website for details.
With this update, you can also hide in battle and add poison to your weapons. It also makes some improvements to the hunger system to make it easier to manage. The lighting system has undergone a major overhaul and is in line with tabletop rules, which works well for both dim light and dim visibility.
Check out the Solasta Early Access review to get an impression of the game on sale. So even if something like Baldur’s Gate 3 is still available, it’s a great tactical adaptation of desktop rules. I’m looking for a powerful story.
