Finkelstein again plays an OT hero for the Swamp rabbit – NHL Sports

Greenville, South Carolina – John Retemon won his professional debut on Swamp Rabbit’s net as South Carolina’s Greenville fell 3-2 in overtime. Ben Finkelstein scored an overtime victory at 2:41, his second sudden death to the Stingrays down this season.

After the first period of scoreless, Swamp Rabbits snapped a skid to give up the first goal of the game. Greenville started scoring for the first time this season, thanks to Garrett Thompson’s first campaign. At 5:29 in the second period, Jack Sadik fed Thompson from the right wing. Thompson filled the opportunity by dodging Stingray goalkeeper Alex Dubaud.

Greenville’s lead lasted only 1:24 in middle stanza as Justin Florek worked hard on the net and filled Letemon with a chance to rebound at 6:53. 40 minutes later, the goal shot was 22-19 South Carolina with a score of 1-1.

In the fourth consecutive game, the Swamp rabbit was in a stalemate in the third phase. South Carolina took the first and only lead of the night after converting with a power play marker at 3:20. Stingrays captain Andrew Cherniwchan redirected the pass from Caleb Herbert between confrontation circles past Letemon.

Swamp rabbits gathered and painted even after a video review later in the period. Brian Moore fired a shot from the circle on the left at 8:10, hinting at Dubaud. The puck was hiding behind the net and the call on the ice was not the goal. After a video review, Moore was credited with his second goal of the season to tie the game.

Moore’s equalizer set the stage for Sudden Death’s overtime and Ben Finkelstein’s limelight. At 2:41 overtime, Liam Pecararo drove the net breakaway and Finkelstein scored a goal in the open cage to win 3-2. This was Finkelstein’s second overtime goal of the season and second at the North Charleston Coliseum at the expense of Stingray.

The victory improved Greenville’s record to 2-3-0-1 in the early season. South Carolina’s record shifts to 3-0-2-0.
