In a recent interview Nikkei, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke frankly about the company’s management efforts, including the influence of the former president and the philosophy of hardware. As part of the interview, he also talked about the Nintendo philosophy behind their IP and how the company sees the development of their characters.

Is it just a matter of putting more characters there?

It’s important to remember that the origin of the character is in the game. These are characters that fans have grown up with and loved through countless playtime. You need to develop those characters so as not to destroy the memories of the characters in the fan world. Always take care not to damage the value of your brand.
