Earlier this month, Cyberpunk 2077 was released on current and next-generation consoles, but what if the game was released on a much older platform? Game developer Anders Lundbjork imagined exactly that by incorporating a game that looks like he’s at home on Sony’s original PlayStation. Lundbjork works for mobile game developer Dreamon Studios, and the video uses Unity to say, “A shader that snaps vertices to the closest pixel of the selected low resolution to forge the wobbled look of a PS1 game.” Created together. The result will perfectly mimic the console and will certainly give old school fans a flashback to the original PlayStation.

Lundbjork’s design was well received on Twitter given how close the video was to the game released on PS1. Of course, some respondents had to compare the graphics to the version of Cyberpunk 2077 that appeared on the PS4 and Xbox One. These comments are joking, but there has been a lot of controversy over the current generation version of the game. Some players claim that developer CD Projekt Red deliberately hid these versions from the public and instead chose to showcase the game’s graphics exclusively on the PC. As a result of the protest, many retailers have offered a full refund for Cyberpunk 2077, and PlayStation has removed the game from the store. Even such a fun project doesn’t seem to escape the controversy surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 since its release!
Interestingly, Lundbjork wasn’t the first person to rethink Cyberpunk 2077 as a PS1 game. Earlier this year, YouTuber Bearly Regal recreated the game in Dreams in a similar style. Apparently, the idea of recreating the unique world of the game on an old-fashioned platform is very appealing to gamers!
Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia.
