The Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) will donate $ 200,000 to the University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus for a new Crop Research and Innovation Center.
The Crop Research and Innovation Center will be an important resource for future research and innovation in crop production, management, sustainability, etc., GFO said.
“Our farmers have always recognized the importance of understanding new innovations based on science and experience and evolving best practices,” said GFO Chair Brendan Byrne. “We look forward to our continued cooperation with the University of Guelph’s Ridgetown campus and are grateful for our commitment to grain excellence.”
Ontario’s grain farming contributes more than $ 18 billion to the state’s economy and more than 75,000 jobs.
“This tremendous show of support from Ontario grain farmers demonstrates their commitment to future crop research results that will help drive our local, state, and global agricultural food economies. We would like to thank each of the 28,000 members of Ontario’s grain farmers for giving us this important gift of leadership. Continued support for the Ridgetown Campus is the work of our crop scientists, and We are demonstrating their contribution to high quality, safe and sustainable food production, “said Brett Shepherd, director of the Ridgetown Campus.
The new facility will provide many scientific laboratories with the latest technology to help scientists raise the bar for the types of crop research projects they can complete. The new facility will also provide attractive training opportunities for agricultural food students and other industry stakeholders to learn important practical skills that can be applied to farms and agribusiness.
Currently, project leaders are working hard to secure state support for this project, the University of Guelph said in an estimated 80/20 funding model. Prior to the start of the project, it is based on 80% financial commitment from the state.
