Gokhan Saki breaks up with UFC and returns to kickboxing – MMA Sports

Kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki has been released by the UFC and seems to be planning a return to the sport that made him a superstar.

2008 K-1 World Grand Prix Champion and former Glory Light Heavyweight Champion Saki signed with the UFC in 2017 and received high praise. He made his debut in a promotion in Japan in September of that year, overcoming early adversity and turning off Henrique da Silva at the moment of decline in the first round.

Saki then returned to the Octagon in July 2018, succumbing to a shocking loss to the volley of the first round of punches from Karil Rowntree. He hasn’t fought since then. A series of injuries..

Saki seems to be fighting again, but his next fight won’t happen in the UFC.

According to Twitter account Beyond kickboxingThe Turkish Star is the latest in a long line of fighters released on the recent UFC roster.

In the days leading up to the news of this UFC release, Saki was teasing his return to kickboxing.

“Which fighter would you like to fight next?” Saki wrote in the caption of the photo of the fight against Ricobehoven at Glory 11.

“The next move,” he added in another post, showing that he was wearing kickboxing gear.

Saki finishes the UFC roster with a 1-2MMA record, but his kickboxing record is very impressive. He was 81-16 in the field, winning a whopping 56 wins in the knockout and helping to win the nickname “Turkish Tyson”.

The UFC recently released a long list of fighters to make room for new fighters signed through programs like the Dana White Contender series.
