Soon, players will be able to literally walk the streets of San Andreas in the position of CJ. Announced during a Connect event focused on Facebook’s Metaverse, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been revealed to appear in VR via the social media giant Oculus Quest 2 headset.
GTA: The release of San Andreas in Quest 2 marks the first journey to the franchise platform, but VR isn’t new to rock stars. The developers re-released LANoire in 2016 as a VR title for PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
GTA: It’s unclear when the VR version of San Andreas will be released in Oculus Quest 2. According to the page on the Oculus site, the title is “created for years.”
Although not officially announced, players may explore an updated version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy-The Definitive Edition rather than a classic, blocky release. The game versions in the collection also include Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, with updated visuals. The original block style has been smoothed out and the game lighting has been completely overhauled.
The VR release of GTA: San Andreas will be the first release of the Grand Theft Auto franchise with each launch and will be included in the most popular Oculus headsets currently available. The Oculus Quest 2 itself has been improved since its release, and after its launch, headsets now have 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rates available.
