Hamilton is happy to end the resistance of the Pirelli F1 tire test with a view to 2022 – Motorsports

Seven-time world champion Hamilton signed a new one-year contract with Mercedes for the 2021 season in February, questioning his long-term future.

But Hamilton has already stated that his future after 2021 does not rely on his record eight world titles this year and does not expect him to be his last season in F1.

Following the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last week, Hamilton participated in a tire test with Pirelli in Imola, running on a set of 18-inch tires developed in 2022.

Hamilton is known not to be a fan of additional testing and joked that he “immediately regretted” the volunteers when Imola woke up before running, but with the 2022 Pirelli tires. I felt it was important to help.

“It was a really great course to test, so I enjoyed the day and the weather was nice,” Hamilton said.

“Yes, I think I’ll be here next year. I want to be part of it. I want to help Pirelli and help them get a better product.

“I think that’s what we all wanted to move forward with more performance tires.

“So it was important to see and measure what the tires look like, where the starting point is, what the differences are, and what the differences I can help, so from the driver’s point of view, We have more grip, more mechanical grip of our tires, [and] Better deterioration.

“I think it was a good test and obviously it was the first step on the tire, but it was definitely not a bad test to get started.”

He also said that future projects need to work closely with the Mercedes team and do more work to improve the diversity of motorsport as a whole.

“I’m enjoying this fight we have, it’s more exciting, it was even more challenging,” Hamilton said.

“As I said, I love working with this team and it’s encouraging to see the steps my team is taking to become more comprehensive and diverse.

“Today, they have already announced one of the initiatives they are taking within our organization and I think there is still a lot to do as a sport. There are still many teams that are silent.

“So far, there are a lot of people who aren’t particularly responsible and there’s still a lot to do in this sport.

“I know that being here gives me a lot of opportunities to help change that. That’s what I want.

“I don’t know how long I’ll stay here. I know.”
