With Loot Rascals, you can rescue your fellow Big Barry from The Thing Below by traveling through space that is defeating enemies under names such as Lunk, Web Jock, and Pool Beast. This is done with items such as Vortex Bin Lid, Satnav Teatowel, and Space Shorts.

This is a great strategy game where you can collect and manage your deck of cards and instantly improve or destroy them. It has the trademark risk and reward flavors used in roguelike games at the core of Loot Rascals, is addictive, and is just as annoying. But in reality, these very clever mechanics are overshadowed by an art style that sits somewhere between Adventure Time and Katamari Damacy. The cutscenes are brilliant and full of strange space adventurers and monsters in the midst of an existential crisis.

I think Loot Rascals was the first game I reviewed professionally. At first, it was forgotten by the boilerplate summary provided by the editors of the time. Procedural generation, deck building, roguelike elements: mine at the time was not so few. I’m still not playing, but for a few days I’ve been hooked on Loot Rascals.

If you’re working with different resources for each run, like Hades or Spelunky, you’ll love Loot Rascals. If you lose the most powerful card, you can quickly regain speed. However, be careful. It’s a difficult game to master. Colorful and ridiculous aesthetics are harder than they initially suggest.
