HBO Max finally hits Roku devices

WarnerMedia and Roku have reached an agreement to bring HBO Max to Roku-enabled devices starting tomorrow, December 17th. Access to the library, including upcoming movie releases such as Wonder Woman 1984. HBO Max will not be available on Roku devices for nearly 7 months.

WarnerMedia and Roku did not disclose the terms of the agreement, but said the deal was “mutually beneficial” to both parties.

According to analysts, Roku and WarnerMedia were negotiating various issues regarding revenue sharing and the amount of HBO content that Roku could sell through the Roku Channel store.

Roku has a 43% market share and is one of the largest platforms for streaming services, but HBO Max has made progress for several months without Roku. However, with great impetus for new subscribers in 2021, releasing a new movie on Streamer on the same day as the theater makes a deal for both Roku and WarnerMedia.

HBO Max is available today not only on PlayStation 5, but also on Comcast platforms such as Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex.
