With the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, all performance issues and bugs have been reported. But at least some are worth laughing at.
The latest episode of Highlight Reel was posted on the same day as the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 There is a section dedicated to open world SFRPGs that have been plagued by bugs and glitches.
The Patreon account is run by Chris Person, who introduced Highlight Reels when he worked at Kotaku. This has always been an interesting way to see all sorts of glitches that players around the world encounter in video games.
So it’s not just cyberpunk that can contain glitches. In fact, cyberpunk isn’t the only game featured in this episode. The way glitches are displayed here is more affectionate than criticizing performance issues. The cyberpunk glitch starts at 9:25 in the video below.
Clips that appear to be captured from a mixture of PC and PS4 show some of the more widely reported glitches players have encountered.
Video shot from an early rescue mission shows an enemy smashing through a wall and thrown into a void, with another Jackie smashing a row of lockers from the end of the mission.
Some of the more persistent asset streaming issues are also seen in some clips where the texture or model takes a long time to pop up. This is especially hilarious during the opening rapid montage where the hardware is clearly struggling to catch up.
Another issue is how V can call his car and make it look like the Witcher 3 roach. This car doesn’t seem to know when to stop.
The conclusion clip seems to shatter all the issues into one with script and load failures. As a result, the bike suddenly disappears into the air before the enemy chases you on the bike and crashes in a T-pose.
Another highlight includes an extension clip for people who have no control over their bladder due to continued urine flow while walking. This is a previously reported bug and a case of genital clipping.
Please note that these clips were taken shortly after or shortly before release and may have been fixed in a patch.
Nonetheless, it’s true that cyberpunk suffers from serious performance issues with the latest generation consoles, and Digital Foundry has determined it’s “unplayable” on the PS4.
In addition to the funny glitches, more careful players can also find some neat Easter eggs that refer to The Witcher.
If you’re just starting out with Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll find the life path you need to choose to start your story in Night City. I’m lucky to avoid the worst bugs.
