Hyundai puts 2022 WRC car on full rally simulation – Motorsports

The Korean brand has basically set up a custom three-day rally to accurately mimic the conditions that the new i20 Rally 1 car will receive when the new WRC hybrid regulations are introduced next season.

Hyundai has chosen to perform this complete rally simulation on paved roads in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. In collaboration with the local government, several sections of the road have been closed to create a rally stage. Some were previously used in Rally Dialva.

To ensure that no stones are left in preparation for next year, the event incorporates a power-only zone, putting the car’s 100kW hybrid system at its pace.

These zones will be used for all rallies between stages next year, but cars need to be powered only in the service park.

To put this into practice, the team also sought to recreate the noon service and tire fitting zone to make the rally simulation as authentic as possible.

Ott Tänak grabs the handle of the i20 on Wednesday, hands over the car to Thierry Neuville on Thursday, and Dani Sordo completes the event on Friday.
