The team, founded by three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin and NBA icon Michael Jordan, made its NASCAR Cup Series debut this Sunday at 500.
So far, Baba Wallace put the car on the leaderboard in the first practice session of Speed Week, setting the fourth fastest time in pole qualifying.
As a result, the 27-year-old was placed outside the front row of Duel # 2 and led three laps to almost win the qualifying race. After leading the backstretch with a 3 wide pass, he was unable to block the charge from Austin Dillon leaving Turn 4.
Dillon cut inside Wallace and took the victory in just 0.057 seconds.

This effort put Wallace in sixth place in the official starting lineup for the 63rd starting lineup of the Daytona 500, the highest starting position in the NCS career. However, Wallace was disappointed and lamented at the mistake he made at the 60-lap event.
“There were many mistakes,” he admitted. “It’s a good debut, but nothing really makes me happy. It’s okay for the driver to work hard. That’s how we motivate ourselves to get out and do better. Great DoorDash Toyota Camry I would like to pay tribute to the 23XI team for making this. I helped (Martin) Truex there and tried to do everything I could to bring Toyota a win. Thanks to Kyle (Busch).
“I know there’s a lot to learn here, but overall it was a good night, but I learned to do it.”
