Is there oxygen on Mars? [Video]

Do you have oxygen Mars?? Yes, Mars has oxygen, but just going out and breathing on the surface of Mars isn’t that much, and it’s definitely not enough. NASA Engineer Asad Aboobaker will tell you more.

The oxygen density of Mars is about 1 / 10,000 of what we have on Earth. However, the atmosphere on Mars contains a lot of carbon dioxide — about 500 times more CO2 than oxygen. If you want to harvest oxygen on Mars for use in future explorers and launch systems, it may be a better way to extract some of the oxygen from CO2 and use it instead. That’s where MOXIE comes in.

MOXIE Is NASA’s Perseverance Rover technology and has been proven for the first time to be able to extract oxygen from carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of Mars. Since this is a tech demonstration, it produces only a small amount of oxygen. For future human exploration, we will probably need to send a 200x scaled-up version of the current MOXIE.

When such a system lands on Mars, some of it provides oxygen for astronauts to breathe, but most of it is used as rocket propellant to return to Earth from the surface of Mars. ..

So does Mars have oxygen? Not many, but it’s okay because you can make it yourself.
