Koei Tecmo-Cyber attack closes official website

Koei Tecmo Europe was hit by a cyber attack, and the official websites of Koei Tecmo America and Europe were closed as a precautionary measure.
Following Capcom a few weeks ago, Koei Tecmo’s European branch has been the target of a cyberattack. Thankfully, the damage doesn’t seem to be as serious as it happened at Capcom.

In a press release on December 29, Koei Tecmo reported that there was a risk of leaking login information for approximately 65,000 accounts at the Koei Tecmo Europe Forum. The leak may have occurred since December 25th.

What has been confirmed to be a leak so far:
account name
Account password (encrypted)
mail address

At this time, investigations have shown that credit card information and similar important customer or employee information has not been stolen. So far, only the login information of forum users has been compromised.

To avoid investigation and further damage, the official websites of Koei Tecmo America and Koei Tecmo Europe have been closed and are currently inaccessible. Koei Tecmo Europe’s internal network is also isolated from other Koei Tecmo internal networks. Both sites simply redirect to a blank page that says, “This website is temporarily closed to investigate the issue due to potential external cyberattacks.”

Investigations are still underway, but hacking forums have also found posts claiming attacks. In addition, it sells information on FTP authentication and Koei Tecmo’s official Twitter account in Bitcoin.

Koei Tecmo Europe is currently working on the localization of Liza’s Atelier 2. The first numbered sequel to the Atelier series with the same protagonist, released in Japan on December 3, 2020. Liza’s Atelier 2 will be available in the United States on January 26, 2021 and in Europe on January 29. Via Steam for PS4, Switch, and PC.
