The partnership was first revealed in early 2021 and in fact the true friendship formed between Girard Pelego and Aston Martin led to the creation of a new watch, the Laureat Chronograph Aston Martin Edition. Its styling is beautifully reproduced in shape, texture and light for those who appreciate luxury and performance. Overall, both companies have more than 330 years of accumulated know-how, which is evident when evaluating their work. However, they share a firm and positive outlook while respecting their heritage.
In the early 1900s, different colors were assigned to racing cars to distinguish the different nationalities of the team. As a result, French cars wore blue, Italian cars wore the famous red, Belgian cars wore yellow, German cars wore silver, and British cars wore British Racing Green. As a British mark, Aston Martin has adopted green as the racing color. The most famous example is the Aston Martin DBR1 who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959.From that car to the present day Formula 1® The racing color of the car, Aston Martin, remains green.
The Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is Girard-Perregaux’s latest work in collaboration with Aston Martin. Its dial is filled with a fun and decadent application of what is now known as “Aston Martin Green”. This was achieved by carefully applying the paint to the dial 21 times, resulting in the formation of seven different paint layers. Automotive influences also include cross-hatching, the diamond-like pattern first seen in the ultra-luxury car maker’s “AM” logo (1921-1926). This motif is also inspired by the quilted seats found in many high-performance sports cars of the British brand.
Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, said:
Our Manufacture has a long history of collaboration. Founder Jean-François Bautte has put together a variety of “établisseurs” under one roof to effectively create one of the first manufactures we know today. Not only has the partnership with Aston Martin created two great watches, it is certainly a heart-to-heart encounter and marks the beginning of a true friendship between the brand and the team. The Laureat Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is proof of its mutual understanding and shared philosophy.
Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Male Crykeman, added:
As Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux strengthen their partnership, the same is happening with a common design spirit aimed at understated luxury. The evidence continues to appear with a subtle touch throughout the watch. For example, the partially open hour and minute hands are intentionally designed to evoke the idea of a racing car, avoiding extra material and providing excellent performance. Similarly, the central chronograph second hand features a counterweight similar to the side strake first seen on the 1958 Aston Martin DB4.
Three counters decorate the dial, two chronograph registers and a small second display. Each counter is partially openworked and perpetuates the design of the hour and minute hands. The central part of each counter is a snail. The date display will be placed at 04:30 and the feature inventory will be completed.
With an octagonal bezel, this model’s profile honors the iconic Laureato of the 1975 watch brand. In support of Girard-Perregaux’s design philosophy, the case is beautifully reproduced in many ways. In addition to satin and polished edges, numerous curves, facets and lines work together to provide great play in the light.
The sapphire crystal pane on the back of the watch reveals the self-winding movement, caliber GP03300-0141, the first mark on the Laureato chronograph with an open case back. Based on the acclaimed GP03300 caliber, this movement features both circular and straight-shaped Côtes de Genève, a polished sink, and thermally blue-painted screws and parrage. .. The movement also has an eagle emblem, indicating that it is a self-made caliber.
The watch is housed in a 42mm 904L stainless steel case. This particular grade of steel is less common and costly than 316L. Its relative advantages include excellent corrosion resistance, improved scratch resistance, and a much brighter and more luxurious look. The use of 904L stainless steel extends to bracelets reinforced with a satin brush finish.
When evaluating the composition of the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition, its profile includes a variety of shapes, finishes and shades. Its design provides functionality and beauty. Moreover, it celebrates the past while accepting the future at the same time. It is this approach that resonates with both companies, strengthening the rationale for the ongoing alliance between the two prestigious marks.
