Lionel Messi has not yet signed a new contract in Barcelona, but if new President Joan Laporta meets three important demands, he can stay in the club.
The Argentine superstar’s current contract expires on July 1st and is already free to negotiate with foreign teams in the summer switch.
Messi informed him of his intention to leave last summer, but was denied a chance and left the world this year hoping he would switch sides.
And while it’s still very likely, the pendulum is rocking and he’s currently considering staying at Camp Nou.
But according to Eurosport, he wants some guarantees before signing a new contract and needs to know that the team is heading in the right direction.
Barcelona isn’t financially strong right now, but Messi wants to see at least one well-known signature and other transfer activity in the club wherever possible.
Manchester City duos Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia may have a free transfer in the transfer window this summer, but Erling Haaland will check the marquee sign box.
Messi knows the financial constraints Barca is working on and wants young players to grow with young people like Ansu Fati, Pedri and Ilaix Moriba in mind.
He also hopes to be given a direct open line not only with Ronald Koeman, who is already enjoying himself, but also with the club’s technical secretaries Ramon Plains and Laporta.
Despite his uncertainties about his future and Barca struggling to meet the high standards of recent years, Messi has already scored 23 goals in just 26 league games this season.
