The developers of the Lord of the Rings MMO, Lord of the Rings Online, for many years, are planning what sounds like a major update in the future that may include the console version of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
Publisher Daybreak Game Company was recently acquired by Enad Global 7, and in an investor briefing (via PCGamesN), the company said it had a number of MMO updates. According to Enad Global 7, the company is investing heavily in games to piggyback on Amazon’s next Lord of the Rings TV show.
“We are planning a visual and technical update to LOTRO for PC and next-generation consoles to take advantage of Amazon’s massive investment in the LOT RTV series (about $ 500 million),” reads the presentation line. ..
The slide states that these updates are planned for 2022. However, no further details are provided.
Amazon isn’t based on TV shows, but for its value, it’s working on its own Lord of the Rings MMO. The game will also appear on PCs and consoles, so Daybreak seems to be competing with new games using its own Lord of the Rings MMO.
The Lord of the Rings Online was released in 2007 and has been steadily supported by numerous enhancements and other updates. The game was developed by Warner Bros. Studio Turbine in Boston, Massachusetts, and many changes were made behind the scenes before the new company, Standing Stone Games, took over.
The Daybreak Game Company, formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment before its separation, was acquired by Stockholm-based company Enad Global 7 in early December.
