Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (29) has been struggling in major leagues since he came from Japan. He has a batting average of .187 in two seasons, including .167 in 27 games against Tampa Bay this season. Tsutsugo also had no home runs, and had 87 strikeouts and 27 strikeouts.
World Series defending champions are looking for veteran role players as they suffer injuries throughout the season. Tsutsugo can also play in the Dodgers outfield, who reportedly agreed to a contract with Albert Pujols on Saturday.
The Dodgers have moved infielder Edwin Rios to the 60-day injured list to make room for Tsutsugo on the 40-person roster. Rios will have shoulder surgery at the end of the season next week.
