Zane Maloney had to fight the puck again after the eighth round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine yesterday at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, finishing eighth in two consecutive races.
Maloney did not have a satisfying qualifying session yesterday morning. He was the 11th fastest and slightly improved from the 12th fastest driver in Saturday’s qualifying.
Unexpectedly, Barbados racers got off to a dream start and climbed the grid. With so many close fights in front of him, Maloney had difficulty overtaking as the race progressed, and he settled in 8th place, adding 4 points to a total of 149 points.
Russian driver Mikhail Belov of G4 Racing was a worthy winner of the day and another driver who found additional gear at the end of the season. Saturday’s winner, MP Motorsport’s Franco Colla Pinto, had to settle in second place. General table leader Gregoire Sorcy finished in 12th place on Saturday and 3rd place. (NM)
