Manny Pacquiao’s Errol Spence Jr. fights retinal detachment – MMA Sports

Injunction by Paradigm Sport Management Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence Jr. may not have stopped the outbreak, but the injury canceled the welterweight title battle anyway.

On Tuesday, it was announced that IBF and WBC champion Spence had been deported from PBC on August 21st with FOXPPV due to a retinal detachment in his left eye. Nevada Athletic Commission found tears During a pre-combat health checkup, Spence will undergo surgery later this week.

This is usually the reason why the entire card is canceled, but Pacquiao will continue to fight next week. Instead of Spence, there is Jordenis Ugas (26-4, 12 KO) who was scheduled to play Fabian Maidana in the joint main event. Ugas is probably unlucky to lose to then-WBC champion Shawn Porter in 2019, winning three straight games against Omar Figueroa, Mike Dallas and Aberramos.

The 35-year-old Cuban won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and is widely regarded as one of the top ten welterweights, if not around the top five. In terms of short-term exchanges, this is a high-quality opponent, but not as infamous and successful as Spence.

This is obviously a shame to lose Spence, so we’ll end it from the night of the battle. He fought only once until December last year, when he defeated Danny Garcia in the final in a car accident. Hopefully he will recover completely from the surgery and will soon see him in the ring again.
