The best action movies on Netflix right now

Best Netflix Movies by Genre:

Note: This list is relevant to Netflix subscribers in the United States. Some titles may not currently be available on international platforms. This article is frequently modified to remove movies that are no longer available on Netflix and add action movies that are now available on the service.

What did you think

Netflix is currently hosting the first three Jurassic Park movies. The 1993 original is widely regarded as one of the best examples of Steven Spielberg’s legendary career, and the thrilling setpieces and special effects have been surprisingly well-lasting for nearly 30 years. Neither of the two sequels (Lost World in 1997: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III in 2001) can approach its high standards, but both are big hits in popcorn without a lack of human-dinosaur action. I am enjoying the work.

Superman Returns (2006)

The Halloween and Terminator franchises aren’t the only ones using the new movie as a way to clean the slate and eliminate bad sequels. Superman Returns supports a new story that erases the latter two Christopher Reeve Superman films and explores what happens when Man of Steel returns to Metropolis for the first time in five years. It’s incomplete and a little too respectful to its predecessor, but Returns is still a really good Superman movie. Brandon Routh fills the impossible shoes left by Reeve, and the plane’s rescue sequence is still dazzling, as it was in 2006.

Pineapple Express (2008)

James Franco and Seth Rogen are always an interesting pair. This is especially true in this stoner action movie, which casts them as goofballs who love two marijuana who have the misfortune of entering in a murder case. Early on, it’s possible to argue whether Pineapple Express is more qualified as a comedy than an action movie, but the question is controversial by the bloody second half. The film incorporates two great flavors, a filthy comedy produced by Judd Apatow and a violent shootout, proving that they can work together.

Spider-Man: To Spider Bath (2018)

As much as I love the first two Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies and Tom Holland’s current Peter Parker incarnation, there is a strong claim that Into the Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Man movie ever (otherwise all of them). The best Marvel movie). Dive head-on into Spider-Verse, dive into comic myths, and collect multiple Spider-Man from the entire Marvel Multiverse. The style of animation is great, but what makes it special is the heartfelt quest for the origin story of the Miles Morales superhero.

Total Recall (1990)

The Total Recall hit theater is in the midst of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s prime number as an action star and continues to be one of his absolute best films of his career. Roughly based on Philip K. Dick’s “We Can Remember It for You,” this sci-fi action film casts Schwarzenegger as a future construction worker suddenly plagued by a dream of life on Mars. Despite these sci-fi traps, Total Recall offers a blend of great action and a great one-liner trademark that we expect.

Blood Sports (1988)

Netflix currently has a lineup of original Mortal Kombat movies, but there’s no reason to ignore one of the ingenious action movies of the ’80s that helped inspire the entire MK franchise. Bloodsport will showcase Junk Road Van Damme in its best condition. The storyline of an underground martial arts tournament is almost as minimal as they come, but you’ll see strong men from all over the world come together to beat a living runny nose. Is just an excuse.

Extraction (2020)

Too many Netflix Originals are taking advantage of the big Hollywood names on the big screen without actually offering what we loved from those names. This is not the case with Extraction featuring MCU players such as Chris Hemsworth, Joe and Anthony Russo, and Sam Hargrave. Hargrave himself oversees this lean, average action thriller, casting Hemsworth as a tortured mercenary assigned the impossible task of rescuing a Bengal teen from a vengeful drug trafficking organization. I am. The action is incredible and the tension remains thick from start to finish.

Golden Eye (1995)

With the new James Bond movie due out in 2020, we imagine many fans planning Bond’s fuss over the next few months. Netflix has only four Bond movies led by Pierce Brosnan, but fortunately the limited lineup includes the 1995 GoldenEye. This clever spy film revitalized the franchise on its own, consolidating Brosnan as a valuable heir to the mantle and Martin Campbell as one of the franchise’s best directors. GoldenEye can’t get to the current Daniel Craig movie without illuminating the road.

Grand Master (2013)

While so many martial arts films have adapted the life and achievements of Wing Chun’s founder Ip Man, there is nothing comparable to the 2013 Grandmaster’s explosive action and gorgeous cinematography. But who would expect a director behind the camera to be praised like Wong Kar-wai? Kawai skillfully extracts a significant portion of Master Ip’s life into a beautiful, fast-paced martial arts drama. Superstars Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi only add to the star power of the movie. What is our only complaint? We hope Netflix will be able to stream great international cuts.

Also, if the Grandmaster is hungry for Wing Chun’s action, check out the Ip Man trilogy starring Donnie Yen, which is also available on Netflix.

Kung Fu Hustle (2004)

Long ago, Jackie Chan proved what the combination of kung fu and slapstick humor was. Like Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle, few modern martial arts films celebrate its heritage. This comedy gangster movie is basically a live-action cartoon. Even though it offers some fierce battle scenes, it can somehow parody a myriad of classic movies. The fact that Kung Fu Hustle features so many beloved actors from the Kung Fu Cinema of the 70’s is icing on the cake.

Indiana Jones Series

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg collaborated in a classic Indiana Jones film, incorporating the cheesy action film metaphor of childhood and freely translating it into a big screen using new, exciting and expensive techniques. .. The first movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, is about as good as an action movie, with adorable characters and sneaky villains all searching for the same magical treasure, making it a huge and unforgettable set. The sequels are mixed, but most are great. The Temple of Doom relies on insulting stereotypes, but it also has perhaps the most breathtaking sequence of actions in franchise history. Last Crusade has an iconic set piece and a wonderful Sean Connery as Indie’s stuffy father, but the jockey’s tone robs that series of gravity. The kingdom of crystal skulls is pretty ridiculous from start to finish, but at least it’s never boring.

Headshot (2016)

Imagine a plot of bone identity. However, there are raid battle scenes. It’s an underrated headshot of an action thriller, starring Iko Uwais as an amnesiac who must protect himself and his psychologist from an army of martial arts assassins who want to die. Headshots are undoubtedly even better in streaming, as the action is so nice and unforgiving. You may need to pause the film just to take your breath away.

Lupine III Cagliostro Castle (1979)

Hayao Miyazaki directed Cagliostro’s castle before becoming a world-renowned film director, including My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Miyazaki’s trademark vibrancy is already in full swing, and I still feel that the film is mysterious and timeless.

How to choose the best action movie on Netflix

Netflix has a fairly wide range of action films, some of which could easily come under the umbrella of science fiction and comedy. We narrowed the list down to focus on influential classics such as the Goldeneye and Indiana Jones series, and big blockbusters that work well on aggregate sites such as Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. It also seeks to reflect a wide range of sub-genres, including popular superhero movies, bloody martial arts movies, and adventure-oriented cuisine like Lupine III Cagliostro. Hopefully there’s something on the list for all your favorite action addicts.
