Oregon Duty Free: Capital Gains
Capital gains tax exemptions for Oregon homes have changed in the last few years. If you’re considering selling your home, stick to it. Certain state and federal income taxes may be exempt. If you have lived at home for at least two of the last five years, you may be exempt from capital gains of up to $ 250,000 ($ 500,000 for couples) for a home sale. In short, your profits include the original closing price of your home and the value of the improvements made while you own the home minus the selling price. After selling your home, profits of less than $ 250,000 as a single owner or less than $ 500,000 as a couple are exempt from capital gains tax.
