New PlayStation App adds voice chat, better store, etc.

Son’y has announced an updated version of the PS app. It will be rolled out on iOS and Android today. This update offers a new design, native PS store, voice chat features and more. Announced on the PS blog, the new version of this app aims to make it easy to track PS5 and PS5, PSN friends, and general PlayStation news. See images of new designs and features below.

According to the blog, here is a list of new features:

  • Updated user interface – The first thing you’ll notice is the sleek new user interface of the redesigned PS app. The new home screen allows you to quickly see what your friends are playing and access details of recently played games such as the trophy list.
  • Message integration – For a unified experience, the PS Messages app feature is integrated into the updated PS app so you can seamlessly send messages to all your friends in one place. As part of this integration, PS Messages will no longer be available as a standalone app. Existing messages and threads in the PS message will be carried over to the updated PS app.
  • Voice chat and party groups – You can now create party groups from the PS App and voice chat with up to 15 other friends via your mobile phone. Also, a note to fans: The PlayStation team is investigating feedback on the changes in Parties introduced in PS4 System Software Update 8.00. There are no updates to share today, but thank you for talking about your concerns-we listen and rate.
  • Natively integrated PlayStation Store and remote download – The new native PS Store experience enables fast and smooth shopping and browsing with the ability to download games and add-ons directly to PS4 and PS5 remotely.
  • New features of PS5 – When the PS5 arrives, you will be able to launch the game remotely, manage console storage if you run out of space while downloading the game, and quickly sign in to the PS5 directly from the PS app.
