NieR: Automata passes sales of 5 million units

Nier: Automata has become the best-selling game from developer PlatinumGames since it exceeded 5 million units.
NieR: PlatinumGames’ bizarre android-filled JRPG, Automata, has crossed a major milestone. The 2017 title has officially sold over 5 million copies, making it the best-selling game ever from developer PlatinumGames.

NieR: The announcement that Automata has exceeded 5 million was made through the game’s Twitter account. A short post also reveals that this count consists of the game’s “global shipments and download sales.”

Overall, it’s not so surprising that the game shipped a large number of copies. NieR: Automata was originally released on PS4 and PC and became a cult hit. The game moved to Xbox One a year later in 2018. In 2019, a Game of the Year version titled NieR: Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition was also released. This version of the game comes with all the DLC and all the additional content that the player may need. Finally, the game was added to the Xbox Game Pass earlier this year. Needless to say, there are plenty of options for choosing one of the most popular titles of 2017.

The NieR franchise isn’t complete yet. The next entry in the series will be a remaster of the 2010 NieR Replicant. In the officially titled NieR Replicant Ver1.22, the last time I saw this game was at the Geoff Keighley Game Awards when a new trailer featuring gameplay was announced. The next generation version hasn’t been announced yet, but the game will be released in April next year. So far, NieR Replicant Ver 1.22 is only available via Steam on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
